On 12-30-97, MARK FORNOFF declared to JUSTIN BAUSTERT:
MF> JB> Jesus was speaking to a group of Pharisees.. Do you interpret
MF> JB> those passages as holding true for *all* lawyers?
MF>There are those who would take the passage so, but blanket
MF>indictments are not fair.
There are exceptions to most every rule, but Christ's indictment was
against the behavior of that group called "lawyers" taken as whole.
There simply are not enough exceptions in that group, which it is
important to note today includes most in political office, to mediate
against that indictment.
A few weeks ago, Bob Enyart engaged in debate with a group of law
students, a number of them professed Christians, in an exchange that
spanned 2 or 3 of his hour-long shows. They had called the show in
reaction to comments about lawyers Enyart had made, and were voicing
their objections, like that lawyer in scripture. Before it was over,
they must've had somewhere around 20 phones set up based on the photos
they gave Enyart later - phones everywhere, several rooms, dorm
hallways, and more students than phones. Very enlightening, including
to the law students themselves, who were forced to admit time and again
that much of what they had *thought* was ethical and moral, because it
is viewed so in eyes of their chosen profession, really isn't - not even
close.
What had already happened with those students is common in the legal
world, and elsewhere too - they had come to equate what is legal at any
given time with what is moral and ethical. To put it another way, they
had unwittingly begun to set man's law and legal rules as supreme over
God's law, and to structure their moral and ethical code accordingly, to
their discredit.
Remember from whence come the Clintons.
