| subject: | WinUpchuck, WGA slow down boot? |
From: "Frank Haber" Anyone else noticing a two-minute pause after your desktop icons appear before the computer's usable (XP SP2)? I'm getting this ONLY on the two machines on which I tried out Windows Live/NoneCare/Defender. The usual suspects are Recovery images and the index server. It's not these. Otherwise, the machines are pretty d*mn clean, with very little startup crud. One's a Dell Dim, the other a VAIO P3M lappie. The HD light is on hard in a sort of 50% duty cycle, pulses of 10 sec. or so, interspersed with 5-115 seconds of dark think time. The desktop's live for highlighting, but double-clicks and StartMenu opens are queued, up to 2-3 items. Further flailings are discarded. After you go get a coffee, everything's normal and crisp. --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 379/45 1 106/2000 633/267 |
