PH>Are any of you familiar with Sengal Parrots? There a person advertising
PH>one for sale in the local paper. According to the ad the parrot is
PH>4 years old and UNTAMED (!) I might be able to deal with an untamed
PH>parrot if I had some info on them, but none of my books here have much
PH>info on them insofar as their natural behavior and ability to learn are
PH>concerned.
PH>I have to wonder about an untamed four-year-old parrot though...
I don't know anything about Senegals other than they come from Africa
and they're small, about the size of a larger conure. If they're
anything like African Greys, however, they're probably pretty sensitive
and scare easily.
Honestly, *I* wouldn't take on such a bird as my first bird. Taming a
wild parrot is NOT easy, and often ends in failure. Thus, none of the
books offer truly successful methods.
Unless the owners are ditching that Senegal for a song, for the same
money you could probably get yourself a hand-fed conure who would be
tame from its first day in your home.
