Depends upon what your needs are.
For my low-use servers, I tended towards Red Hat and SuSe. For desktop I
tended towards SuSe (until 10.1, which is a transition version, work in
progress, so to speak) and Ubuntu. At work we use a Red Hat Enterprise
cluster running a three-node Oracle database. Nice, reliable set-up.
I like Ubuntu because it doesn't try to load every available app under the
sun, and the apps they choose are good.
I'm waitin for SuSe 11.x to see if they recover from the stumble.
There are plenty of Live CDs available, give 'em a try...
btw, wireless is lacking on all of the distributions.
