AR>JK>VOTE DOWN ALL FUNDS FOR SCHOOLS! And then they will actually hold a
AR>JK>session for the general public to tell them why they aren't passing!
AR> MP> That is the absolutely dumbest thing you ever said.
AR>Especially since voting down the budget won't do anything.
It accomplished this: without the levy, no additional schools are going
to be built which puts a huge crimp in the plans to swamp an
agricultural area with mega developments.
AR>When the school budget is voted down, the people in charge of it will
simply
AR>cut a couple of bucks off of it and then implement the "revised" budget.
And not be able to build new schools. Those we have now are straining
at the seams. The school district made the mistake a couple of years
ago of coming out in favor of the developments. One such would need a
two new elementary schools, half of a junior high, and half of a senior
high. That would end up being around $25,000 per new home that goes in
and this county allows a mitigation fee of around $1,400. Seems as
though country people really can add and subtract well enough to figure
out who is going to pay for those new schools in additional taxes.
Around here, a new grade school is 8 million, the others around 12
million. That is for the buildings alone. Then there is staffing and
new school buses and whatever goes inside of them. The cost would go on
and on.
Several school districts in this part of Washington are beginning to
have problems getting levies passed. That isn't going to change until
the development ceases.
Oh, the median income in the last census where I live was $12,000 a year
for a family, $17,500 in the rest of the county, and $40,000 in the
nearest city. Quite a spread, wouldn't you agree?
And 1000 Friends of Washington has stated in print a few years back that
each new home built away from a city ends up costing the taxpayers at
least $50,000 per a study done some years back. That figure is now
closer to $75,000 per home and rising yearly.
This nation was started over unfair taxation and may just split up over
the same. There has been muttering in Hawaii, Florida, and Alaska as
well as the Pacific Northwest about creation of a new nation. And then
there is the population in Montana who have already tried to seceed from
the Union......
