Well said Tom.  I believe that properly used, computers can be a great 
asset to education--as you said, a "resource."  We have many computers 
in our district but most teachers use them for games and concept 
reinforcement.  That in and of itself is not all bad.  However, there is 
so much more kid will need to know about computers to be fully prepared 
for the future.  In one classroom, the teacher has taught kids how to 
make a video presentation via the computer (on the Mac) and so instead 
of a written report, the report goes on disk.  I have seen several of 
these reports and it is amazing what kids can do (4th graders) when 
directed by a knowledgeable teacher.  The computerized reports included 
scrolling text, pictures, and click and point from page to page.  Some 
included audio as well.
