To date those TC>teachers are very few and districts who spend thousands on computers TC>and software without educating the teachers in the process are IMO TC>wasting time and money. Some teachers even fear the technology while TC>others realize it is here to stay and those who don't progress will TC>not survive the transition. Well said Tom. I believe that properly used, computers can be a great asset to education--as you said, a "resource." We have many computers in our district but most teachers use them for games and concept reinforcement. That in and of itself is not all bad. However, there is so much more kid will need to know about computers to be fully prepared for the future. In one classroom, the teacher has taught kids how to make a video presentation via the computer (on the Mac) and so instead of a written report, the report goes on disk. I have seen several of these reports and it is amazing what kids can do (4th graders) when directed by a knowledgeable teacher. The computerized reports included scrolling text, pictures, and click and point from page to page. Some included audio as well.
