Stupidest New State Law for 1998

This one REALLY takes the cake (or, at least, the mudpie!):
The award for the absolute STUPIDEST new state law for 1998
goes to California for sagely naming "San Joaquin soil" as
the "Official State Dirt of California."
Official State Dirt??? Is that so the politicians can make sure
they use the "right dirt" from which to make the mud they sling?
Small wonder CA is snidely called the Land of Fruits & Nuts...
