-> Then you haven't been driving here. Everyone have at least 2 extra lights an
-> today they have those blue glass and/or xenon bulbs. Those are more than
-> annoying I can tell you.
I fantasy-invented improved car-light systems, year ago. One had
polarizing lenses on the lamps, with the plane of polarization at an
angle of 45 degrees to horizontal (or vertical). The driver would wear
glasses with polarizers aligned to block the lights of incoming
traffic, but allow light from his own headlights, after reflection
from other objects, to pass through.
Another system had the lamps blinking, very fast, The driver's glasses
would be transparent for the very brief time when his lights are "on",
but opaque the rest of the time. Most of the light from other vehicles
would be blocked.
A variation on the second scheme had the lenses in the driver's glasses
being opaque at the exact instant when his headlights emitted a pulse
of light, but becoming transparent over the next couple of
microseconds. This system would work as a foglamp. Light that is
scattered back from fog right in front of the headlights would be
blocked, but light that goes further before being reflected would get
through.
All of these schemes are do-able. It's just a matter of economics.
