 Tough poop! It's HER self respect that counts the most.

 This reminds me of families who protect a family member how has
molested several children in that family- to 'keep the peace'. Never
mind the feelings/well being of the afflicted children. And we all know
in any culture the 'family' often justifies their stand by convincing
themselves and everyone else that the child was somehow at fault.
