It's not a ridiculous segue, it is an observation based upon MS Money's
failure to attain a significant (majority) marketshare in the home
financial software market.   That failure, in spite of the leveraging of
Microsoft's desktop monopoly, and the intensive marketing campaign behind MS Money.

Indeed, Microsoft wanted to buy Quicken in order to eliminate the
competition because Microsoft knew they couldn't compete on the basis of MS
Money alone.
