Could be something drew him away after he posted the note. That
happens now and then. You post a FOR-SALE or something, then get called out
of town or family takes you to 13.3 school functions and two parent
conferences in the same week... :-)
Packet is a great deal of fun. I'm using an MFJ-1274, whose ROM was
apparently upgraded somewhere along the way. I understand the original dind't
have a Personal Mail System (PMS) built into it, and mine does. Mine behaves
like the popular TAPR (Tuscon Area Packet Radio, a club and more that
basically defined packet as a hobby, at www.tapr.org) TNC-2. In fact, a note
inside says "Portions of this board taken directly from TAPR artwork."
HOWEVER, it wasn't until I found out that I SHOULD have a mailbox
built into it that I even cared about it. Popular packet programs such as
paKet 6.1 give you a mailbox feature anyway. The advantage of the built-in is
that it can take messages while the computer is busy or down; the PMS in the
program can't. A really nice FREE packet program is called TPK.
If you'd like to discuss packet in more detail, join me in the PACKET
conference or AMATEUR_RADIO, both of which support its discussion. Or write!
