I seem to remember reading one of the security features/patches for XP was
that it couldn't be used to scan thousands of machines simultaneously like
W2K could because they had built in some sort of limit/sensor to watch for
that. Since this was a feature most virus used MS thought it was a good
idea but some of the folks using parallel port scanners said it was going
to make XP useless for their scanning.
It was probably part of SP2 so if you lookup all the details of SP2 I bet
you'll find it.
