  I would expect the speed difference (faster or slower) to be negligible
to Joe Average.   The difference comes in if there really are the rumored
5+ seconds response time from some servers.   One idea with speed increases
for centralized servers is that less popular domain names will come from
cache, having previously been requested by the much larger population of
users.  That could cut 1-4 seconds for that web page.
