TB>with V.32 V.34 emulation. BUt I can only d/l at 1300 cps or so.
TB>How do I get the emulation?
V.32 is a 14.4 kbps max, and only applies to the MODEM, not to the
comm program. V.35 is a serial interface, like EIA232 (RS232 in
the old days), which still would become a COMx to the comm
program. V.34 is a 28.8kbps MODEM protocol ... again, the comm
program would not normally affect this.
First, is it internal or external. If external, is the computer
port equipped with a 16550 UART. Is TM setup to use the 16550?
To get reliable communication with the 33.6 kbps possible with
V.34+, you will need a 16550 or better.
When you connect, the modem PROBABLY reports the connection info
to your terminal ... look in the "back" buffer (alt-B with
Telemate) if it scrolls by too quickly, or if it isn't displayed;
Telemate doesn't bother you with some of that handshaking stuff,
but does keep it for you to see.
With some modems, you can get a connect speed higher than your
port speed. With others, you cannot. For optimum performance in
DOS, with very compressible but uncompressed files, you would need
115.2 kbps com port speed. HOWEVER, that doesn't work with MANY
systems. I'd strongly suggest using 38.4 kbps settings (you can
get 3500+ cps at 38.4) until all problems are satisfied, then TRY
57.6 and see if there is any improvement.
TB>the setup is like this "atm s0 blah blah ^M, at&c1 or sumthing"
>8,1,0
Your modem docs will have to be checked to determine what should
be used. The &C1 looks good, but there are several other
important parameters with Rockwell or USR command sets.
>rts/cts on. xon/xoff off
very good
>fifo off.
not good; unless running DOS on a 60 MHz machine (and not for sure
even then) the overhead of servicing a non-fifo com port will kill
you. Be sure you have a FIFO. Enable it.
Any ideas?
