| subject: | Asteroid Impact! |
Hello Everybody, Wanna know what it would be like if the Earth is hit by an asteroid? Check out this url - http://www.lpl.arizona.edu/impacteffects/ The web page depicts an actual program which you can input whatever variables you wish to determine the impact of an asteroid. For example - Distance from impact Projectile diameter Projectile density (4 different kinds of asteroids) Impact velocity Impact angle (most hit at 45 degrees, but can set to 90 degrees) Target type -Water of depth (if asteroid to hit in body of water) -Sedimentary rock -Crystalline rock It is a very simple program to use, and takes only seconds for results to be processed. Nothing to download. It is all on line. In regards to politics, catastrophic events such as an asteroid impact would definitely have an effect on world politics. Heck, even entire nations might be destroyed! And that would create quite a power vacuum. We have already seen what a small asteroid impact can do, with the recent Asian tsunami of December 26, 2004. Imagine if a much larger asteroid had hit just off the coast of NYC. Not only would NYC be destroyed, but also much of the East Coast. Not to mention massive earthquakes and tidal waves elsewhere. --Lee * SLMR 2.1a * Unable to locate Coffee -- Operator Halted! --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5* Origin: Try Our Web Based QWK: DOCSPLACE.ORG (1:123/140) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 123/140 500 106/2000 633/267 |
