MvdV> I have yet to see a movie in Frisian... And even read a book or a newspaper, yes? I know, we have some 5-10 hundred years old dialects, that's so different from official Swedish they can be regarded as separate languages, here to. Some really dedicated persons have tried to document the languages, before the last person speaking the language is gone, so they will not be totally forgotten, but those guys sure are struggling a fight they are bound to lose. Soon, as within 50 years or so, most of the world will be speaking only a very reduced set of English, I suspect. MvdV> I think even Dutch will in time disappear.... And with it Swedish, Danish, Norwegian and all the other minority languages of the European Union, I bet. Question is: is that bad? When all the world suddenly can communicate in the same language, maybe a lot of misunderstandings will be avoided, and eventually the world will be a much more peaceful one to live in? -- MvdV> FidoNet in your news reader: news://felten.dyndns.org MvdV> For full access, register at: http://felten.dyndns.org/join.html ---* Origin: news://felten.dyndns.org (2:203/2) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 203/2 0 20/11 106/1 2000 633/267 |
