IMO computers are under utilized due to a lack of teachers qualified in
their use in educational situations. I would agree that they are hyped
by some districts that have them in hopes to lure students away from
districts that don't have them. Less than ten percent of teachers
locally can do more than turn the computer on and maybe reboot if
necessary. Computers are only a tool and without the skills to use
them they really are not of a great deal of value. IMO IF districts
would spend the funds to give some advanced training for teachers in the
use of computers in the class room the inevitable transition toward
their increased use would be much smoother and better for both teachers
and students.
