subject: Racial Problems

RM>MS>Pittsburgh has had 25 years of racial troubles in the city schools,
  >MS>all in a city with few real racial problems otherwise.
RM>Excuse me, Matt, but this is kind of a silly statement; if
  >there are racial problems in the schools, then there ARE
  >racial problems in the city as well. That they haven't
  >manifested themselves in riots, etc, doesn't mean that they
  >aren't there. What you're describing is the expected clash
  >of two different cultures meeting for the first time; which
  >is probably happening at the middle and high school levels.
This is an interesting exchange of ideas. The topic "Racial Problems"
and the concept that problems in school situations are manifested
outside the school is almost humorous. In fact many situations never
arise outside the schools because the races for the most part are not
forced to co exist outside the educational situation. Students of
different ethnic groups should not be required to or excluded from any
assembly inside a public school. Exclusive type assemblies simply
should not be allowed to be held. The schools are public forums and
paid for by the working public. Special interest simply have no place
in the public system.
Schools in Arkansas are integrated from preschool on so I don't quite
understand the concept of different cultures meeting for the first time.
The schools in your area are exclusively one ethnic group prior to
middle school ?? Realistically, enter any lunch room, go to any sports
event and you will find self enforced segregation by different ethnic
groups for the most part. When we all become Americans and not ____ -
Americans things may change. So long as special interest groups
continue to demand more than they contribute so called racial problems
will continue to exist.
