Another factor I guess is the understandable desire of Microsoft to not
make piracy really easy. If I could download Magic.exe from Microsoft, then
run it and convert my XP CD to a fully-patched XP, I would have a very
useful product (particularly if VLK).

However it's extremely frustrating. I haven't got around to WSUS yet, but
when I last spent six hours trying to figure out SUS, I cannot see any
reasonable way to get a new workstation to update *now*. I can do an
unattended install, but then I have to do some really painful whackery (or
wait a few days) to get the damn thing updated from a SUS server.
