I would expect a goal like that from business majors but not from major
geeks. The flaw to that type of thinking is that if people buy a computer
and software together, then what is there to stop them from just up and
moving to another platform at the drop of a hat? I mean backwards
compatibility wouldn't exist in that world, users biggest concern would be
"is there a code for my remote control?"..

I would think both Intel and Microsoft should be afraid of exactly this situation.
