| subject: | svchost.exe + networking. |
From: "Hrvoje Mesing" Ok, computer (WinXP SP2, fully patched and Clean) started. Opened about ~200 Internet Explorers with various web pages > mostly www.microsoft.com. svchost that hosts these services: 6to4, AudioSrv, BITS, Browser, CryptSvc,dmserver, ERSvc, EventSystem, helpsvc, lanmanserver, lanmanworkstation, Netman, Nla, RasAuto, RasMan, Schedule, seclogon, SENS, SharedAccess, ShellHWDetection, srservice, TapiSrv, Themes, W32Time, winmgmt, wscsvc, wuauserv .. had ~5500 handles opened. Ok, one more IE opened, it couldnt connect to the internet. Ok, then opened windows explorer and tried to connect to network share > not enough system resources to complete the task (?). Ok, all of the IE_s closed. svchost handles count dropped to ~4700. Still cannot establish connection. Restarted all of the services in that svchost (that I could, because you cannot restart seclogon) > still no joy. Ok, then rebooted the computer, svchost handles count on boot was ~1700. Ok, did the same thing with IE_s and same thing happened. Anyone saw similar ? Anyone ever tried programatically kill "unused" handles ? Did not find anywhere that this was reported as a bug. Maybe this is overall Windows bug ?! :))))) P.S. I tought that there could be "staled" network connections and that windows is looping somewhere, but all of the connections were eiped out + checking overall processes on computer - found nothing strange. tnx, -+- M. --- BBBS/NT v4.01 Flag-5* Origin: Barktopia BBS Site http://HarborWebs.com:8081 (1:379/45) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 5030/786 @PATH: 379/45 1 106/2000 633/267 |
