Dear Julia,
WEll, the major rush is over. It surely would be nice if i could
stretch it out for more than two weeks time [the garden tours do usually go
on for two extra weeks, but everthing else happens from the first Sat. in
August back to two weeks earlier. This year for the FESTIVAL OF THE MIDDLE
AGES, the big deal on August 2nd, i also did some of the food service. I
cooked 240 lbs of turkey drumsticks [and individually packaged them] and 32
loaves of bread. packed as 'half a loaf'. The cheese curds, fruit drinks,
fruit, and sweetmeats, that we served, were not much work. When i got
started, i thought that i would be the only one serving anything
substancial, but there turned out to be two other servers. WE have an
awfully lot of drumsticks left and finacially , we just about came out even,
maybe a little short.
The only new craft that i made for this event was leather slings. YOu
know, the thing that David used against Goliath? NOt a slingshot, but a
regular sling. ? THey were written up in our latest issue of the SCA
national magazine.
Today, i am spreading pollen from one double daylily to another. It all
has to be done within two hours of when the flower opens or they don't
germinate. I have on more msg to send and the flowers are opening, so i
must run.
Love and Shalom, ll
