Well it would help if I knew what I was doing .
I put the latest release on yesterday and started having some problems with
TCPVIEW , turned out to be a permissions issue. Running the Learning wizard
in Corefoce worked,. Along the way to knowledge I did manage to hang Core
Force once. I don't recall exactly what was going on but I think it was
related to trying to ver 9 on top of Ver 8, having some issue with
permissions to write to the IE Cache, Running the Policy editor while CF
was asking whether to allow writing etc in the Cache.
Windows Update will not run with Core Force running , permissions I'm sure
, and I expect could be readily solved through the learning wizard. I'd
rather deactivate CF when running WU and keep IE a bit more restrictive.
I also had a minor problem with it asking what to allow IE to do for almost
every file ( JPG's GIFS, Index.dat etc) but that was solved by cleaning my
IE Cache .
Some of these minor problems may have been due to my running the .90
install on top of the .80. After uninstalling CF,doing a clean install ,
cleaning my IE Cache they have not reoccurred.
I had played with CF on the laptop a few months ago, overall I think that
once I spend some time learning more about it ( my knowledge of firewalls
is VERY limited) it will be fine. It does seem to offer far more control
and information than Kerio ( Or MacAfee which may give access to the
underlying information if I really work hard ).
So the short answer is Heck if I know . Seems to work fairly well
once the relevant applications have been set up in it, but I haven't really
done enough to tell much.
Chicken huh ? Me too , I only put it on an extra PC ( Along with the WGA
Notifications). If anything happens it won't matter
