Hi again, James! This is a continuation of my previous message to you:

AH> Now I have a backlog, just as you have, and it seems
AH> like an overwhelming task. But knowing I'm not alone
AH> has encouraged me to keep picking away at it.... :-)

JB> But you *are* gaining on it?

Eek! You had to ask that, didn't you? Okay... I can see empty
space where there wasn't any a few months ago. I have to be careful not to
let stuff pile up in other areas while I'm busy there, though. And I don't
expect others to notice the difference. You must do these things to please
yourself.... ;-)

JB> [...] and the stories of farmers burning their 'old'
JB> wooden furniture, because they just bought brand new
JB> arborite surfaced crap drives me nuts!

Yeah. As I grow older, I have more appreciation for old things.
And then there's the rule of thumb... "collectibles" are what
your mother threw out while "antiques" are what your grandmother
threw out! The arborite may be more appealing to some folks nowadays. I
don't imagine it will have the same appeal in a century or more, however,
even if it is still usable. There may be better man-made materials
available & there may be more folks who recognize that "real
wood" usually meant "compressed sawdust" during the present
time... [wry grin].

JB> Your "location location location" has little to no snow.
JB> There's a tax on that.

Uh-huh. We think it's fun when we get snow, but it's a novelty
here. It doesn't hang around for nine months as it does in other places...
[chuckle].

JB> I've heard it was a struggle to get fresh enough seafood
JB> here for sushi.

Ooh... I think I'll stay put! Nora's college class had their
end-of- the-year pot luck bash recently, with hamburgers & hot dogs
provided. When she & I saw that four people had brought sushi we
gorged on California rolls. :-))

JB> [...] I don't remember the last time I had better than
JB> the canned species.

With a bit of mayonnaise, I find canned salmon quite edible. And
one can eat the bones, which are a good source of calcium.... :-)

JB> So, who do you think actually rules the world.

Although you don't want to be ruled by fear & ignorance, you see that
... together with greed... they rule much of the world. In this area, the
best time to buy gas is the weekend following a long weekend (so the gas
company can prove they don't *always* raise prices on weekends) or on
weekday evenings when the vast majority of commuters are already at home.
I imagine you have to make the most of limited financial resources, as we
do. There's a fine line between responsible money management & panic
buying sometimes. But because you already know that & you've been
thinking about it, I'm not worried about *you*.... :-)

AH> They were rare examples of early Canadiana.

JB> ...And what a loss!

You're thinking the way I'm thinking... a beautiful piece of art,
and a wonderful bit of history, has been lost forever. Only the rich can
afford to own such things now because many of the people who owned them
previously didn't appreciate what they had. I imagine those who paid umpty
gazillion dollars for them are laughing all the way to the bank because
they're still rare... (sigh).

JB> Testament to our throw-away upbringing. Well, the majority
JB> of our upbringing, anyway. YMMV (-|

Seen in a tagline: I'm weird, but I'm saving up to be eccentric. ;-)
