DC> like this particulr board (Noah's Kitchen) because they offer just
DC> abouit all the previously mentioned newsgroups and echos as well as
DC> online magazines and games (although, like I said, I don't play them).
So it seems that you like a board that has multiple interests - rather
than a specific theme?
DC> don't object to paying for services, I am not in a position to do so
DC> right now but rather, take advantage of the free time that these folks
DC> offer. I try to upload things to places that I download from and when
DC> I can afford it, will subscribe to at least a couple of the local
DC> boards althiough making a decision about which one will be difficult
You know - that is how may of us started. The whole idea was to share
some of your favorite files. But as competition became heavier for
callers - many of us added more and more services. We thought that
might bring more callers. I added internet access - 21 CDs online - 6
gigs of online (disk) files - satellite feeds for multiple networks...
on an on. All I ever wanted was a BBS that people called and
participated in.
Instead - all that I got was people that leeched files and complained
about contributing $10 a year to the board. Yes, there are many of
those - but it never seemed to balance out with the ones that helped
support the board.
There is another board that boasts to having a lot of contributors.
Maybe he does - but he also allows multiple logons (different names)
... doesn't really care if someone ever writes a message. You culd go
for months without ever seeing a local message.
That simply is not the type of board I want. So I have isolated myself
to an "invitation only" board. I hand out calling cards to people I
meet - and tell them up front what I expect in a caller. I get a few
that way - but I know eho these people are. I can help them on a one
to one basis. Rather than the stress of some twit that had an extra
thousand dollars and bought a computer.
DC> nets) as well as local support for my various interests. Anyway, I
DC> don't want to run out of time here as well... so for now, Cya!
Thanks for your response. I appreciate the comments.
