I believe the earliest GEOS stuff I have has a 1985 copyright and
was written for the Commodore 64. Although I've heard a few people
claim that GEOS started as early as 81/82, but I haven't seen
anything very solid on this. Later somewhere about 1987/88, GEOS was
released for the Apple ][ (didn't sell too well there). Then later,
PC-GEOS hit the market around 1990.
And unfortunately, Windows v3.0 was also released this year and
Windows apparently had stolen the spotlight away from GEOS. But that
didn't stop some of us from noticing that GEOS does have it's
benefits. Even IBM Canada was preinstalling GEOS on some of their
computers for awhile. "GeoWorks Ensemble is one of the most
successful PC software applications that we have ever sold," said
Rick Dalmazzi, manager of Personal Systems software for IBM Canada.
