-=> Quoting Ray Shannon to Dave Hazelman <=-
RS> Most of the ones I usually catch are as big as your hand or
RS> even a little bigger. They are a nice size for eating.
RS> Of course, as is the case with Pan Fish, you have to
RS> pick out the Bones. But the taste and flavor is sure good.
RS> There is no danger from any pollution either, since the
RS> Pond (Small Lake) is Spring Fed, running water. Since it is
RS> situated up in the Hill Country in South Central Texas
RS> the only pollution that could possible be around would be the
RS> Meadow Muffins from the few head of Cattle that graze in the
RS> Pasture. They do not even have access to the lake. They have
RS> their own Water System in the Cow Pen areas. There are also
RS> some good sized Small mouthed Bass in there too. Anxious to
RS> get one of those on the Fly Rod. From the ones I have seen
RS> in the shallow part of the Pond, they go to 1 1/2 pounds
RS> to maybe 3 or 4 pounds. I'll try a couple of small Spoons
RS> with spinners. I also have a couple of Cricket Lures. If
RS> that does not do the job I may try Live Frogs or Minnows.
RS> As well as they strike in that water, I should have a
RS> lot of fun.
Here in Detroit I find smallmouth bass and perch near each
other, possibly together. I saw smallmouth bass busting minnows on the
surface of the Detroit River but maybe they were perch hatchlings, not
minnows. Smallmouth bass are fun, they are terrific fighters and wont
let go of a worm.
... Mostly I let them go. They are too pretty to keep.
