Well, if I may speculate as to Winfred and his plans:
as I have noticed with other software authors, when they first introduce
their shareware (software), they support it with a zeal, knowing full
well that others will notice the support. After interests and purchases
of the software drops considerably, so does the presence of the author,
what does he have to lose then? He's already made his money, made his
perfunctory appearances and filled his pockets.
That do they care if someone still has problems with his/her software,
years after the latest update was released?
