From: "Gary Britt"
. Its true that those users who don't use anything special or unique
don't need anything a totally locked down computer can't provide. Hadn't
thought of it that way.
I have batch files and macro express macros and other programs that I am so
used to using to automate so many small things about what and how I work as
a lawyer that I find it very frustrating to use a computer that isn't set
up for me. Many of my macros, batch files and certain programs I use have
histories extending back 5 to 15 years.
The Northgate Keyboard I'm typing this on is from 1989 or 1990. I still
use every day the 1987 dos version of Tornado Notes, Sidekick 98 for my
PIM, the 1987 dos version of timeslips for time and billing, a 2.5 megabyte
Normal.dot file for Word 2K with many hotkeys set to the combinations my
fingers learned in the 1980's for MS Word For Dos 5.0. I use macro express
to provide hotkeys and mini-features that are similar across many of my
regularly used applications and operating systems.
I'm just too old and set in my ways I guess, and I type fast enough that
things I can do with one keypress on my Northgate keyboard in combination
with my macros, etc. really piss me off if on another machine I have to
start clicking file-print preview, etc.
