I've only had one PCB mass-produced and I made extremely sure that it was
done correctly.

Hmmm... maybe code so that there is a global define for whether you are
making a dextro or levo version? A bit like the Japanese television sets
that display in mirror image (with a simple mirror/normal switch) so that
they can be seen correctly in barber shop mirrors by customers getting
their hair cut.
