Plenty of people did. Anyone who had a real clue about what to look
for saw plenty. I saw heaps more meteors in one night than I'd ever
seen before in one night. And I saw more "wow" meteors (big,
bright, with trails that last anything from seconds to minutes) in
one session than I'd ever seen before in my life. And I'm a
stargazer.

I think the media got sucked in by their own hyperbole.
