| subject: | Local BBS Doors under WINNT? |
Help!
Two related problems:
- How do I get WINNT to recognize CONFIG.SYS (and maybe
AUTOEXEC.BAT), so I can locally run BBS Doors which require ANSI.SYS?
Failing that, where can I get a local ANSI emulator to make it work?
- How do I get a WINNT system to run a BBS Door locally,
without the door program giving me "CARRIER LOST"?
---
For example King of the Board, which I've loaded with some Espernto puzzles
for some of my favorite Esperantists -- if I can get the files that I
cloned from my BBS working on my newly acquired WINNT laptop-- preferably
before the next Esperanto meeting in a few hours! (I won't have
a dialup line there to dial directly into my BBS itself -- and I don't do
Telnet nor Internet from home).
The NT laptop does have an ANSI.SYS, file, and I know how to set a PATH to
find it -- it even has a one line CONFIG.SYS (stacks=0,0). But for some
reason it doesn't recognize the ANSI line I've added in the usual way,
whether at boot time, or when dropping to START - RUN - CMD .
Quick replies will be especially appreciated, even slow ones will help me
for the future, thanks. I am willing to voice or modem direct dial 8n1 at
my expense to any number in the USA, and possibly most other places where
people have relatively inespensive phone connections from America.

PS: I did all this successfully several years ago, running MS-DOS doors
locally under MSW-98, but I forget how I did it -- and I'm not sure it
would work the same way under NT.
