Pilot dies in plane crash near Hamilton County airport
COLLEGEDALE -- The Federal Aviation Administration investigated
the site Sunday where a small plane crashed in Hamilton County,
killing the pilot.
Donnie Crook was trying to land his experimental plane Saturday
night when the plane sheared a tree limb near a house. The plane
struck pavement and careened through a 200-foot clearing before
stopping short of the runway at the Collegedale Municipal Airport,
just east of Chattanooga.
It wasn't immediately known what kind of a plane Crook was flying,
but it was believed to have been experimental and worth about
$100,000. Crook reported losing power just before the crash.
