subject: echoes, echo abuse and cherry heads

Hi, Kathy,
I've just gotten access to Fido's Parrots. i am enjoying it immensely. I do
have to say that the letters pertaining to "attacks" were disheartening. Now
I can swear with the best of them but I am adult enough and polite enough to
know that there is a time and place for such. I don't beleive the nets is it.
Take it to the Flame echo. I thought the gentleman handled it properly enough
but the lady was insulting; we the readers shouldn't have had to be exposed
to the dirty laundry. Especially something bordering on libel. Are people
ever banned from breaking echo rules? Is this an example of an infraction?
You mention that you moderate one of TWO Fido bird echoes? What is the other
one? I saw a list of the Fido backbone recently and don't remember seeing
another bird related echo listed. What is it called? Are there others also?
We can get WWIV net also ; do you know of it and if there are any there?
About Cherry heads--can you give me any advice? I have about 400 birds. I
have 16(I think) species of conures. I can breed Pyrhurrahs all day long. We
live in North Fla where it is really hot and muggy in the summer and fairly
mild in the winters. I have never gotten my pair of cherryheads nor my
mitreds to breed. I can breed White eyes and Red throated conures but not the
CH's or mitreds (or the blue crowns. They did have infertile eggs this year.)
They are all s/s and have been cultured. The male CH came from Howard Voren
in So. Fla, one of the authors of Bird breeder magazine. So at least soem of
them come from very reputable sources.
They are in a 2'X2'X3' cage outdoors on an elevated stand. Their nestbox is
about12"X12"Xeither 18 or 24". Their diet is Nedderlands Vita parrot seed
with fruit and veggies, some pretty bird pellets, some Scarlett brand Nutra
parrot crumbles, Proteen 25 ( is just like CeDe eggfood powder) and Fruits
and veggies. Their cage has a tin roof. the hen stays in the box most of the
time.
She and the male seem to get along well. The hen is very defensive of her
box. She was once tame and was let to rule her humans' house. I got her when
she began attacking people. She has been around a few years but is not old.
This comes from several previous owners vet records.
Anyway if you can help me out with any suggestions, please let me know!
Thanks!
Barbara Howell
