subject: Acoustic pickups

NB>GL> Hi All, can anyone recommend a good quality pickup for an
NB>GL> acoustic guitar, I don't know much about the newer stuff,
NB>GL> the last one I used was an old shadow brand.
NB>GL> Problem is I really don't wan't to drill a hole in my guitar,
NB>GL> and not sure of what is available, I need it for pub gigs.
 NB>GL> Many thanks
 NB>GL> Garry Lawson
NB> The Dean Markely ones aren't too bad. Depending on what
 NB>kind of guitar
NB>you have, sometimes they can sound a little tinny though. I
 NB>think martin
NB>makes an accoustic pickup that's pretty nice.
I hate to be general, but a couple of years ago I did the sound for
an auditorium in San Diego. A Choir with instruments was commonly
performing. Having succeeded in illing the walls and sealing with coatings,
various instruments needed amping. Ifound some good "contact" miks which
were mounted to the back or bottom of the various accoustic instruments such
as piano, stand-up bass, a dreadnaught accoustic, etc. The fool things would
actually work even if they were adhesively stuck to brass.
There is a good assortment, but I would suggest an adventure in a
serious sound shop, theater, that sort of thing. Uhhhh. It is almost like a
Disneyland for a sound minded person, so better leave your check book at home
and take only cash you want to part with.
Peace
