I accidentally posted an announcment for the Clipper shareware CD-ROM my
company periodically updates in this conference. While many USENET,
RIME, FIDO, listserv and Web discussion groups welcome brief
announcements of direct, focussed relevance to the subject of the
discussion forum, others see ANY type of commercial message/announcement
as an invitation to $$$fast, sex, MLM, and other spam. I had been
requested (2 years ago?) by Phil to not post notices here, and had
complied until the mistake of several days ago. The moderator asked me
to place a post here describing the situation and perhaps start a
discussion.
I certainly can understand the community's reluctance, and yet many
people do benefit by appropriate product announcements. I generally
suggest that commercial announcements be emailed to the moderator who
can decide to post or dump them.
