Nope, always worked a proxy from a full locked and ask for sites to be
opened point of view. I also block java and any sort of downloads from
websites, the java block does tend to break a few sites and the no
downloads kills anything that requires flash.

This does tend to limit how useful the web can be but it's better than
nothing and so far we've not had one virus infection, no spyware, no
compromises of any sort.

We do have a couple of people who required more access, bought them laptops
(besides their desktop systems) which connect on the outside of the
firewall (actually in a restricted dmz zone so that even they are somewhat
protected) and they have been constantly infected and trashed and reimaged
dozens of times. Which works out to my advantage because it shows what
would happen if I didn't have such restrictive policies in place.
