-> Here's the first message posted to this conference. I've since seen
-> many that seem to support the "not upgradeable", went to the web site
-> and couldn't find my model or series listed, sent an e-mail to the
-> technical support folks, who asked for more info, which I sent, and
-> haven't heard anything from them since. For tracking purposes, my
-> e-mail is tjparker@texas.net, but am not optimistic at this point.

-> From: TOM PARKER Refer#: None

-> Subj: no V90 for PCMCIA? Conf: (310) F: USRobotics Modems
-> --------------------------------------------------------------------
-> Have a Courier V.Everything PCMCIA, which I duly registered for x2
-> on 11/21/96 and got back "Your registration was successfully saved".
-> Got the key to enable it on 3/31/97. Went to upgrade to x2, preparatory
-> for V.90, couldn't get it to take, so called USR Courier Support and was
-> told "Your modem is not upgradeable" and was then asked "What made you
-> think it was?", to which I replied it was a courier V.Everything.
-> ATI7 information is:
-> Product type US/Canada PCMCIA Options
-> HST,V32bis,Terbo,VFC,V34+
-> FAX Options Class 1/Class 2.0
-> Clock Freq 20.6 MHz

-> Serial Number 0010150516L67507
-> What's the deal? Only reason I bought this modem for my laptop
-> (besides handling the sorry San Antonio telephone lines best) was to be
-> able to upgrade.
First Point, DID it Say it was Upgradable either on the4 Origional Box
or in Any Literature provided with it??
Second Point, What you have is Not a V.Everything but a V.everything
PCMCIA. There is a vast World of Difference. And if you Note on the
3Com Web page the PCMIA modems are in a total seperate area.
Just a casual look at the two different modems makes it totaly
Obvious that they could Not have the same capabilities in all areas.
One is often critized for being overly large and the other is a marvel
of miniturization. You just can't "Have your Cake and Eat it too"
Another point, It seems to me that If yuo couldn't get the Registration
to take you should have been alearted that something is Wrong.
I also had registration problems with my "real" V.Everything(And By the
way that name just implied that it could handle certian modem standards
at the time of it's manfacturer, NOT anything someone would dream up in
the future) modem but didn't charge ahead like a bull in a china closet.
But sought out a solution.
