Hi Erich And Drew.

Drew:
Thank you for sharing your way for Linux.
I forgot to mention I am on a Windows platform. A simple killing off a
processes within windows can cause corruption of files. That's windows for
ya :)

Erich:
Yeah I just don't know. There are all kinds of server and other fancy stuff
that come with EleBBS but nothing that takes care of events within the
TelSrv or EleServ. Quite weird. And having to setup a WFC dummy seems quite
overkill for me especially if you do not have a physical modem installed.
The you have to start dealing with virtual modems, etc. Seems like another
can of worms to me. Back then the events were a major thing now this seems
to have been neglected with telnet.
Erich do you mind sharing your BBS address with me ? ;)

Thanks for the quick response and maybe there will be a solution to this
dilemma.

Take care
Bert

Under linux I use a combination of cron jobs to handle all this. I
have a script that will start sending messages to the logged in user
as midnight approaches. When time hits zero, It will kill any running
BBS processes, it will also shutdown xinetd (which handles telnet
connections) to prevent new logins. During this time, the cron
manager launches any external programs needed for doors, restarts
various background services (such as the AI aliens in Tradewars) runs
a complete backup of the bbs to second hard drive, cleans up any
personal user data, searches personal save files, and config files for
local games, deletes old players, users data, then finally restarts
xinetd and the bbs is ready for incoming connections. Typically this
takes 2 minutes on my system. After the backup is made to the second
hard drive, I have 2 more backups that run, One off-site and one to
tape. These run while the bbs is running.

unfortunately in Linux you don't have a WFC screen because each
connection is virtual and spawned only at connection time.
