So I'm back, like promised, and tried Ubuntu. It did install, yes, but no
cigar on getting my screen to look nice - the damn thing was stuck to 640 *
480, with my screen that has a native res of 1600 * 1200. Way uncool. Also,
since I just booted it from CD, I thought maybe I'll have to install it on
the HD to be able to tinker with the settings, so let's try that (there's a
very friendly "Install" icon on the desktop) - and you guessed
it, the install window is too large to display properly on 640 * 480, so I
can't clickety-click on any ok or next or continue button.

So, a few quick pointers and I promise to try it again tomorrow. But I
really need the screen to go full res, otherwise I'm just going to whine
and complain about it forever and ever and ever...

graphics adapter, about 3 years old, so shouldn't be that difficult)
