RT> I don't know that that occurs with CB-ers alone.
RT> I'd call that the sad mentality!
Richard it is more prevelant on that band than amateur bands I am active on.
We do have a local bucket-mouth (constant talker, never goes QRT) who does
draw this type of attention, but he is a natural target for any one with an
axe to grind or a beef by his actions on-air.
RT> There's been loadsa threads in here
RT> and in HAM (when I was allowed in there that is) about triangulation of

 RT> to use them.
We have a small dedicated group here in Ottawa who -are- out to get some of
our local smart-asses for the jamming.
Problems have been a lack of being there when the smarty comes out to
play,and
being able to track the desired target thru the trash on the repeater's
nput.
Since Mr. Bucket-Mouth has yet to leanr to -listen- instead of blabber when
the smarty is active it makes things difficult.
RT> Like any community, there's always going to be strange types gettin

Did you see the jammer posting I sent out before Christmas Richard?
If not I can send you a copy.
It is a simple little guide to help nail the local twit in your area who has
decided to become a Royal Pain to amateur radio.
If you have fox/bunny/hidden transmitter hunts have them make him a prime
target every time they are out for their hunt.
During one hunt here a local smarty came out to play on a local repeater and
was made an instant target by the 20 or so hunters.
The target was narrowed down to one specific area before he/she/it went QRT.
 Close that time,but no luck.
 Next time....
RD>> You should have read the post more carefully before making an
RD>> eroneous jump to a false conclusion, old boy.
RT> I did. And back thru as much of the thread as was still in my
messagebase,
RT> OM REACT seems to be a decent sort of organisation. Let's not forget
RT> that many of today's amateurs started on 11M
REACT is not active in my area and has NOT been for some 10-12 years
ichard.
11m is garbage locally with no benefit for emergency use unless you use it
far enough out of town to get clear of the local idiots,or do have the
ability to use ssb instead of am. (Canada has 40 channels of am / ssb only)
Would you want to try and use a band that has a DJ-want-to-be transmitting
music on any channel they feel like in the band for 5 to 10 hours a day?
When confronted his excuse was he wanted to know who cut his co-ax and was
going to jam every damn channel on the dial 'til he found out!
Figure the brain power behind a statement like that and you can see what 11m
is here in Ottawa.
2m may have its share of idiots that cause problems, but in the long run most
of those doing the jamming and trashing usually do it towards one person
nly.
2m simplex and repeaters were used during our recent emergency, and at one
time there were several of us monitoring the 2m inputs to repeaters that had
a 440
side to them to avoid any potential problems and provide extra coverage.
Several times I was relaying to net control those stations that were having
trouble reaching the repeater as I could hear them on the input frequency.
This also seemed to have the benefit of chasing off one of the local
smarties as he/she/it quit their antics cold when they realized someone was
monitoring
the input frequency.
BTW can UK amateurs have a full-duplex repeater system with seperate inputs
and outputs on 2 bands or more?
We have four such machines here with a 2m in/out connected to a 70cm in/out
that lets you come in on 2m and go out on 70cm or vice versa.
This system came in very handy when monitoring the 2m input and transmitting
on that input simplex while listening to the output on the 70cm side.
