That wouldn't work at all. That space is not necessarily contigous at
all.
It can have two freespace bitmaps right in the middle of it, depending
on
the drive layout.
Furthermore, on a 10MB HPFS drive, that area is only 443 sectors, which
is
not enough for a PS/2 reference partition (which not very many PS/2's
actually have - most use reference diskettes).
