subject: User adjustable Power Settings in XPSP2

From: "Glenn Meadows"

Hi.

Don't know how many of you have run into this, but XPSP2 changed the
behavior of how USER level logins can NOT control the power settings on
their computers, you get Access Denied when in an Active Domain
environment. This has been a constant source of frustration for our users,
as the computers keep going into sleep mode, or turning off monitors when
they go to meetings.

Well, I found a blog entry that has a registry edit that allows any
Interactive Login to set Power options for their profile. Here's the link
to the blog, and also in the discussion, are pointers to a third party GP
Template that can allow this to be set globally. At the current time, the
Templates in Group Policy do NOT provide the ability to change this default
USER restriction, or at least I've been unable to find anyone who can point
me to a place where it could be changed from the default behavior.

Hope this helps some others.
