-=> Quoting Kandy Dietrich to All <=-
KD> I was wondering if anyone knew the reason a bird picks their
KD> feathers. I have a Moluccan Cockatoo that has been picking for some
KD> time now, and I dont know what to do for her. I was wondering if anyone
KD> could help me.
Much as I hate to be the barer of bad news, most cockatoo's anyway
if all health problems have been checked out and the bird is free of
health related problems, pluck out of plain being unhappy.
I would take my bird to the vet and rule out all health problems, since
they can cause birds to pluck, then I would take a look at what is going
on. Was your Too' a handfed baby, that got alot of attention and today
gets alot less? Too's in general and especially moluccan's need and
demand alot of hands on attention. They become very unhappy and either
scream, pluck, or become unmanagable if not a combo of all when they
don't recieve that attention.
As for health problems, if everything else is the same as it was, as
far as attention etc. there are just too many different ones to say
what would cause plucking. Diet could be another area you need to
look into.
Either way wish you luck, let us know what happens, Too's are my
absolute favorites...
