On 16 Oct 97 14:57:32, Robby was going on about "Year 2000"...
RD> At what cost to the nation?
 GD> Zero!
RD> I guess you think the banks won't pass on the billion dollar upgrade
 RD> costs to us?
You were not talking about programs from the banks. You were speaking
rather in general. I replied with my experiences, i.e. programs at
work that I am responsible for.
GD> Not at all. I run a Maximus BBS myself and am greatful to people like
GD> Scott for providing such programs without charging for them. This
GD> doesn't mean that it can't be a better product. You seem to take ALL
GD> criticism as negative. It's NOT! I like to see Maximus survive, but if
GD> Scott and loyalists like yourself are so sensitive about improvements,
GD> I'm not so sure it will... :(
RD> Perhaps I misread, but your first post sounded much more like a
 RD> complaint than a suggestion.
Well, that wasn't the intent. If I wasn't happy with Maximus, I could
always switch, no?
GD> So by your own admission, you're really not a year 2000 expert, then?
 RD> Nope, just a year 2000 victim.
That's the thing. Nobody needs to be a victim!
GD> Not that it really matters to this discussion, but let me guess... zero.
RD> How about hundreds to thousands. I have incompatible BIOS and my
RD> vendor is out of business, so by the end of 1999 I will need at
RD> minimum, one motherboard, and at maxmimum, two complete systems.
First, how incompatible is your BIOS? Can you set the date to Feb
29/2000? If so, observe the day of the week. Now set it to Feb 28/2000
and March 1/2000 respectively. Are the days of the week one earlier and
one later as you'd expect them to be? If so, leave the date on March
1/2000, turn the PC off overnight and turn on the next day. Does it say
March 2/2000? If so, your BIOS is just fine. Make sure not to run any
programs during these tests, because some programs have expiration dates
for licenses, or will start doing month end or year end jobs...
Now, how much money do you need to spend?
