RB> Sony is real big in Michigan also I have only ever seen 1 mII machine
and
RB> that was at a show. Up here I see alot of only sony systems which is
nice
RB> when you start dealing with protocals and such, not to mention that i
RB> specialize in sony equipment.
Yeah, Sony is trying to be EVERYthing to EVERYbody. And they seem to be
coming close to actually doing it. From a Professional Dealer's persective
though, it isn't good. They are taking business direct, and cutting out the
dealers that made them what they are today. This is just b'iness, and I
realize that, but it tends to tick me off at times. We are a Sony dealer, and
yet we also COMPETE with them! They now offer installation services, etc.,
and I wonder where it will all end.
RB> What do you think of the DIGITAL BETACAM it is incredible as far as
RB> I am concerned.
Me too. It is awesome. I never knew realtime video could look so good.
RB> Wiring routers sure is a pain isn't it?
Only when you have 500 cables to connect in a two square foot area .
Yeah, things tend to get a bit crowded in the rack that holds the Router,
DA's and patch panels.
RB> Probably my least favorite in wiring nightmares especially going into a
RB> facility with no diagrams and poor harnessing.
Yes, I am ammazed at how many post houses, industrial studios, etc. have no
wiring diagrams of their systems. Every system I design, install or propose
has a complete one-line drawing on it. I used to work for a guy that claimed
"you don't do the drawings until the system is built". That's B.S. I firmly
believe in having preliminary drawings, how else can you tell what you have
forgotten? Naturally, there will be changes in the as-builts, but that's
what's so great about CAD programs - you can edit the drawings.
Through the years my feelings on rack harnesses has changed. I used to want
everything laced down and neat. That's great UNTIL there is a problem. Then
you have to cut tie wraps to trace cables (not needed if the cables are
numbered, but that does not always happen) or remove equipment from the rack.
Now adays I make things as neat as possible, but allow for pulling things out
(like I don't tie down non-detachable power cords, but I do tie wrap them to
them selves to take out the unneeded slack).
