Hi Donna,
DR>What does she have to do that night? June 3....gee, that sounds so "early"
  >compared to the schedule here....Escondido schools are out on the 14th but
  >Poway isn't out til the 20th! ACK!
Well, we don't finish until the 27th here! Personally the later the
better for me - more days to work so I can pay the rent.
DR>I think that would be the hardest for Jennifer, especially after this year
(
  >represented her class in the school spelling bee, and had several solos in
t
  >school choir). But after hearing that CFS hosts both a spelling bee *and*

  >talent show, she felt a lot better.
You'll just have to find some way of recognizing her in homeschool. I
recently suggested achievement certificates, etc. to the teacher I was
in for these last four weeks. I had the class on a point system. The
first one was table points. The next system was individual points for
bringing in their reading logs, good behaviour at "carpet" times, etc.
When I left I gave out some little prizes. They had a choice from my bag
of treasures. Some chose glitter, others pencils and one chose star
stickers. ( All items were about 6 for $1 so each "prize" only cost me
about 16 cents.)
I'm not gung ho on tangible reinforcers but if it works......
I told Beth she might prefer to go the certificate way. I gave her
several suggestions in the old traditional style: Reading (at home),
handwriting, most improved, etc. etc.
DR>For her, maybe it was the key. You found a book she liked and she picked
up
  >lot of things from it. Maybe it finally started to click for her with that
  >book....ya just never know.
For me it was books on fairy tales. I disliked readers until my Mum got
me fairy tale readers. I've never looked back...
Ruth
