We live at different worlds... At my region direct netmail is very unpopular and use only for complains (as require Polcy) and at troubles. All on other cases (very most) we use route mail. I can write a reason for it: very low number of phone lines and very high cost of phone calls (specially intercity). So we divide one line by FIDO and voice, and FIDO can work only night. But computers we have per day, and we can receive (and send) mail at day without work-time all other nodes (except nodes with direct password links with sysop's node), and sysop must send netmeil through his hub (hubs prefered have CM phone and at most - IP channel). So - our sysops can receive more (and quickly) letters by route then by direct.
