   A frightening thought just struck me. Can it be so simple, that the US
does not have any kind of authority that decides what's the proper use of
their language?

   In Sweden, e.g., we have Svenska Akademien, that establishes the proper
use of our language. It also happens to be the institute that selects the
Nobel Prize winners, but that's of course beside the point...

   What, pray tell, all my US friends, institute do you have, that
establishes the proper use of your language? Or is it all laisser aller?
