| subject: | Silly questions? |
Hi, All.
Two silly questions:
1. How can I kill an unkillable process?
2. Are the undocumented HLT system calls for DOS programs documented anywhere?
Some elaboration, if you like...
1. Every so often I get a process that will not die. I can't seem to work
out if there is a pattern to it, but it is always when a program crashes,
and I try to kill it, and can't. I think the only one which has done it
more than once is SLIP.EXE. I have many process killers, all of which
presumably use DosKillProcess(), and they all just do nothing except Mole
which reports "Invalid Process ID". Now it strikes me that this
might be just a case of Mole misinterpreting the return code from
DosKillProcess(), as the errant program shows up okay in a process list.
Any ideas?
2. Self explanatory... Someone in here recently said that a HLT instruction
in a DOS prorgam could cause problems because of it being the method used
for a DOS program to access OS/2 services. Are these services documented
anywhere, and if so, where?
Andrew.
